Description

The School of Biological Sciences (SBS), College of Science (CoS) at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore seeks outstanding candidates to apply for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the field of Biomedical Data Science, with a focus on Computational Biology, Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Biology, and Bioinformatics.

We welcome candidates working in, but not limited to:

  • AI-driven approaches for biology and medicine
  • Systems biology and modeling of biological networks
  • Causal inference and interpretability in biomedical AI
  • Single-cell, multi-omics and spatial omics data integration and analysis 

SBS is searching for individuals with a well-defined research vision and an outstanding track record of publications in top journals. The successful candidate will establish and maintain an independent extramurally funded research program. The successful candidate is expected to show a strong commitment to departmental undergraduate and graduate mentoring and teaching. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, interdisciplinary research and teaching environment that bridges biological sciences, computational sciences, and clinical applications.

SBS covers several areas of research encompassing genetic, structural, biochemical, and cellular investigator-led projects offering many opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations not only within the school but also with other departments in the university. SBS/NTU offers cutting edge infrastructures, such as state-of-the-art structural biology and biophysical facilities (Titan Krios Cryo-EM, Rigaku FRX X-ray generator, BLI, ITC), confocal microscopy, a complete set of proteomics facilities and a modern computer cluster. Researchers also benefit from campus-wide access to high-performance computing clusters. The successful candidate will have extensive opportunities to collaborate with other Schools and national research centres such as A*STAR, and the Singapore Centre for Environmental Life Sciences Engineering (SCELSE), making NTU an ideal environment for pioneering research in biomedical data science.

Key Requirements:

  • Develop and lead an independent, high-impact research program in biomedical data science.
  • Apply and/or develop cutting-edge computational methods, including machine learning and AI, to address fundamental questions in biology, medicine, or public health.
  • Contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in bioinformatics, data science, and related disciplines.
  • Supervise and mentor PhD students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior researchers.
  • Collaborate with faculty across departments and engage in interdisciplinary projects
  • Contribute to the academic community through service and leadership activities. 

Qualifications

  • A PhD or equivalent degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • A strong publication record in reputable journals and/or conferences.
  • Evidence of potential (Assistant level) or established excellence (Associate level) in research, teaching, and academic service.
  • A commitment to interdisciplinary research and collaborative science.
  • Experience in securing or contributing to competitive research grants.
  • Ability to work across disciplines, including biology, medicine, and data science.

  4. Teaching Statement (around 1-2 pages)

  7. Encouraged to provide at least 3 external referee reports, which may support to the evaluation process. All referees should hold an academic position that is at least one rank higher than the appointment.

Applicants with outstanding academic achievements and high-impact potential with national or international recognition and sustained global contributions may be considered or nominated for professorship titles – Nanyang Assistant Professor (NAP), Provost’s Chair Associate Professor and President’s Chair Full Professor

Successful candidates will receive a competitive compensation package, along with generous start-up funding and dedicated laboratory space to support the development of an internationally recognized research program.
