Newco is an early-stage biotechnology startup with a mission to harness the power of mRNA medicines to deliver life-changing therapies to patients with autoimmune and other serious diseases. We are developing next generation targeted lipid nanoparticle (tLNP) delivery systems, enabled by innovative conjugation and formulation technologies, to engineer immune cells in vivo.

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated Associate Scientist/Scientist (Contractor) to support the development of novel LNP formulations for mRNA delivery. This individual will work closely with a Senior/Principal Scientist to execute hands-on formulation, characterization, and analytical experiments. The ideal candidate will have a background in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or related fields, with prior industry experience in nanoparticle formulation or drug delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform hands-on LNP formulation and optimization experiments using microfluidics and other mixing technologies.
• Assist with conjugation chemistry workflows and preparation of functionalized lipids as directed by senior scientists.
• Conduct physicochemical and biological characterization of LNPs (e.g., particle size, PDI, encapsulation efficiency, stability, release profile).
• Support analytical method development and execution (e.g., HPLC, LC-MS, DLS, gel electrophoresis).
• Maintain accurate and detailed experimental records, data analysis, and reporting.
• Contribute to laboratory operations, including reagent preparation, equipment maintenance, and inventory management.
• Work collaboratively in a small, cross-functional team and communicate progress effectively.

Qualifications

Associate Scientist:

• B.A./B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline with 3+ years of relevant industry experience, OR
• M.S. in related discipline with 1–2 years of industry experience.

Scientist

• Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (Molecular Biology, Immunology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry) with 0–2 years of postdoctoral/industry experience, OR
• M.S. with 3–5 years of relevant industry experience.

Experience with lipid nanoparticle or liposome formulation strongly preferred.

Hands-on experience with analytical techniques such as DLS, HPLC, LC-MS, or spectroscopy.

Familiarity with nucleic acid therapeutics (mRNA, siRNA, plasmids) is a plus.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to work independently under supervision.
