Description

Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Spring Co-Op candidate to join the Cancer Immunology team within the Oncology department located at our Ridgefield facility.
As a Cancer Immunology Co-Op, you will work with scientists on in vitro/ex vivo experiments in the field of cancer immunology. Your major project will involve developing and optimizing functional ex vitro assays to measure the outcome of cross-talk between tumor and immune cells as a result of genetic modification or in response to pharmacological interference.

Duties & Responsibilities

•    Strong scientific understanding and interest in one or more of the following: immunology, oncology, cell biology, and molecular biology.  
•    Optimize the ex vivo/in vitro functional assay involving multiple cell types and determine the efficacy of pharmacological interference on the assay.
•    Analyze the data obtained from experiments, process and report data and experimental results. 
•    Complies with applicable regulations; Maintains proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies.

Compensation Data

This position offers an hourly rate typically between $20/ hour and $33/ hour commensurate to the level of degree program in which an applicant is actively enrolled. For an overview of our benefits please click here.

Requirements

  • Must be a current graduate or advanced degree student in good academic standing.
  • Student must be enrolled at an accredited college or university for the duration of the co-op.
  • Overall cumulative minimum GPA from last completed quarter/semester 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) preferred.
  • Major or minor in related field of co-op.
  • Graduate and advanced degree students must have completed at least 9 credit hours at current college or university.


Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
  • Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities

•    Immunology or oncology background preferred
•    Previous experience in cell line or primary cell culture is required, preferably cancer cells, T cells and/or myeloid cells.  
•    Hands-on skills in relevant in vitro assay (ex, FCAS, ELISA/MSD/AlphaLISA and/or immune cell isolation) 
•    Experience in ex vivo system setup and molecular biology including RNA isolation and cDNA library prep are a plus.
•    Enthusiastic to continuously learn from scientists across departments
•    Ability to troubleshoot both individually and as part of a team
•    Excellent record keeping
•    Strong writing and oral communication skills
•    Must enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary and collaborative environment
•    Additional skills and interests that demonstrate soft skills are highly encouraged
•    Inquisitive, open-minded
