Job Description
We are looking for Visiting PhD Students and Visiting Scholars for 2026. We are launching three research projects on IAQ and Ventilation that bridge fundamental fluid dynamics, indoor chemistry, and public health.
We are looking for motivated researchers to collaborate on three research projects:
– Natural ventilation. A mix of full-scale chamber experiments, wind tunnel testing, and CFD simulations to verify and update design standards
– Thirdhand smoke modeling. Advanced CFD modeling of nicotine deposition, surface chemistry, and re-emission in residential environments
– Gas pollutant filtration. A comprehensive laboratory and community field study evaluating advanced air cleaning technologies for gas pollutants in environmental justice communities
We are looking for candidates with experience in: (1) CFD (OpenFOAM proficiency is preferred) on airflows in built environments. (2) Particle image velocimetry (PIV) and wind tunnel experiments. (3) Experience in Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) measurements, including environmental chamber testing, field measurements, and/or low-cost sensors.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates applying for CSC (China Scholarship Council) or other external funding. Please find the details of our visiting scholar program here: https://lnkd.in/gnXJgyS7
To Apply: Please send your CV and a brief statement of interest by email to Dr. Jiayu Li at jiayu.li@berkeley.edu
