Job Description

Salary: $130,000-180,000

Overview:

Join a bold and interdisciplinary team at the frontier of tissue engineering. We’re developing biohybrid systems to replace or augment human organ function, that are encapsulated, and which do not require invasive transplantation: exo-organs. We’re seeking a Cell Biologist – Differentiation Biology to lead the differentiation biology research for our exo-organ devices, and collaborate with our engineers to build a biohybrid device that will revolutionize healthcare.

This role is ideal for a creative scientist excited by the idea of exploring differentiation strategies, co-culture and organoid research programs that push the frontier of regenerative medicines.

What You’ll Do:

  • Develop, implement and refine differentiation protocols in 2D/3D format for a variety of lineages, including the main hepatic and pancreatic cell types
  • Develop protocols to seed and expand cellular co-cultures in novel bioreactors to form functional tissues
  • Develop protocols for iPSC differentiation in non-suspension bioreactors
  • Develop and performs functional assays to assess the maturation and functionality of engineered, complex tissues
  • Improve and adapt our synthetic biology tools for differentiation and functional purposes

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, or a related field, with 2+ years postdoctoral or industry experience
  • Multiple publications in differentiation biology using iPSC lines
  • Expertise in liver differentiation, or pancreatic differentiation
  • Experience generating and working with differentiated organoids
  • Experience performing liver and pancreas cell functional assays, preferably in organoid format

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with synthetic biology
  • Experience with organ-on-chip technologies
  • Experience with liver or pancreas in vivo
  • Expert understanding of human physiology

Who You Are:

  • A scientist who enjoys working, living and breathing in the lab
  • An optimist willing to believe the promise of tissue engineering
  • Someone who thrives on receiving and providing constructive feedback
  • Collaborative, communicative, and eager to learn about new scientific fields
  • Eager to contribute to a company redefining the field of organ transplantation.

Why Join Us:

We are a small, and mighty team of scientists and engineers working at the frontier of regenerative medicine for human enhancement purposes. Daily work looks like fun and rigorous research paired with creative problem-solving and intellectual curiosity where action matters and diversity of thought is respected, and essential to how we solve problems. A space for tinkerers, explorers and developers who desire an intellectual home where controls, excellent experimental design, and mastery over the literature are championed principles. We are on a quest to extend human life, and we sincerely hope you can join us on our mission.
