The Department of Electronic Systems Engineering (ESE), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) is launching a Final Semester Project Internship Programme for final-year B.Tech and M.Tech students, running from 15th January to 15th May, 2026.

This programme aims to provide students with early exposure to the serious research culture at IISc by embedding them full-time in an ESE laboratory to work on well-defined research or technology projects. The areas span a broad spectrum of electronics, including quantum technologies and quantum information, semiconductor and nanoelectronic devices, VLSI and hardware systems, healthcare technologies, communications, signal processing, and systems research.

Students may use the work carried out during this internship to fulfil their final semester project requirements at their home institutions, subject to institutional norms. Importantly, this opportunity is not restricted to students without an assigned project. Students who already have a final-year project, including those who are mid-way through it, are encouraged to apply; the programme is designed to support project continuation, extension, or integration where appropriate.

A key motivation behind this initiative is to widen access to high-quality research exposure, particularly for students who may not otherwise have opportunities to engage with research-intensive environments like IISc. Accordingly, applications are invited through two tracks: an open drive for all students, and a special diversity-focused drive for candidates from SC/ST, OBC-NCL, EWS categories, the North-East, and other underprivileged regions. For the special drive, a โ‚น10,000 per month stipend and 3AC train travel support are guaranteed, while stipend support for the open drive will also be available to a majority of the students. The stipend provided to students from both tracks will be over and above any stipend they are currently receiving at their home institution.

Beyond project execution, the internship is intended to help students understand how research is actually done, interact with faculty and research groups early, and gain clarity – especially for those considering PhD programmes in IISc (ESE) or elsewhere (India or abroad). Prior research publications are not a prerequisite; motivation, seriousness, and willingness to learn matter more.

The application form is available here: https://lnkd.in/gX3JTfgH

Faculty members across institutions are encouraged to share this opportunity widely, particularly with students who may benefit from early research exposure and mentoring.
