PhD Candidate Summer Internship Opportunity | Genentech | Summer 2026
We are seeking a PhD-candidate-level Summer Intern to join Genentech in Summer 2026! This isn’t your average internship. You will be co-mentored by scientists in both the Translational Medicine department and the Discovery Proteomics group. Your focus: developing novel, ultrasensitive proteomics approaches to advance biomarker discovery from human biofluids.
What you’ll do:
– Develop technologies to measure low-abundance proteins in biofluids.
– Optimize sample preparation and mass spec data acquisition workflows.
– Analyze large-scale proteomics datasets to nominate biomarker candidates that inform clinical development.
Who we are looking for:
– Current PhD students in Molecular Biology, Analytical Chemistry, or related fields.
– Hands-on experience with proteomic sample preparation and mass spectrometry.
– Strong data analysis skills; R and/or Python experience is a major plus.

– Location: South San Francisco (On-site)
– Duration: 12 weeks, starting in May/June 2026
