About Ochre Bio

Ochre Bio develops RNA therapies for chronic liver disease. Our driving vision is to end the need for liver transplants. Over 1.5 million people, globally, die of chronic liver disease every year. For the vast majority the only cure is a liver transplant. With little more than 40,000 transplants performed, this is a health lottery. Ochre exists to change this.

Our science is built on three pillars:

  • Causal human discovery: The largest global collection of human liver data to uncover new therapeutic targets.
  • Rigorous human validation: World-leading human models that far outclass traditional animal models.
  • Better therapeutic translation: Optimised RNA chemistry and biology to bring effective therapies to patients faster.

We’re ambitious, curious, and supportive, embracing failure as part of innovation and guided by our three operating values:

  • Clarke’s Law: Be bold. Think big.
  • Murphy’s Law: Fail fast. Learn faster.
  • Wheaton’s Law: Support each other, always.

The Role

We are looking for a talented and highly motivated Principal Computational Scientist to join us to drive the development of advanced RNA medicines for one of the most pressing healthcare challenges of our time.

You will provide strategic and scientific leadership for Ochre Bio’s advanced statistical modelling efforts, with a focus on Late Validation initiatives from concept through to therapeutic hypothesis. The role is accountable for defining and executing high-impact statistical and computational strategies, influencing cross-functional decision-making, and shaping Ochre’s statistical modelling roadmap.

Based at our New York City site, you will be a key partner to our multi-disciplinary late validation team focussed on leveraging our unique human tissue and whole-organ liver models

Key Responsibilities

  • Define the strategic vision for advanced statistical modelling for Ochre’s Late Validation Platform
  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of innovative statistical frameworks for deep-phenotyping datasets.
  • Oversee experimental design across multiple programs, ensuring statistical rigor and optimal data acquisition.
  • Act as a thought leader for integrating multi-modal data into target validation pipelines.
  • Mentor Senior Scientists and other team members, fostering technical excellence and career growth.
  • Oversee the development and scaling of cloud-based computational workflows and ensure best practices for reproducibility and version control.

Must-haves

  • PhD in Statistics, Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, or related quantitative discipline, with substantial postdoctoral and/or industry experience.
  • Proven track record of leading large-scale statistical modelling projects from conception to implementation in biotech/pharma.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm to blend strategic drive with hands-on data analysis and execution
  • Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional project teams.
  • Deep expertise in advanced statistical methods (e.g., Bayesian modelling, hierarchical modelling, causal inference) and their application to biological datasets.
  • Strong coding skills in Python and/or R.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience leading geographically distributed teams and managing multiple concurrent projects.
  • Experience building scalable and automated data analysis pipelines (e.g. Nextflow).
  • Prior experience with preclinical or clinical trial data analysis.
  • Experience with project and line management, especially in matrix environments.

If you’re ready to make an impact in the fight against chronic liver disease, we’d love to hear from you 👉 Apply now!
