Job Description
Senior Research Scientist : Synthesis R&D
Purpose of the Role:
To contribute to early-stage drug discovery programs by designing and synthesizing novel small molecules that meet client objectives. The role supports hit-to-lead and lead optimization efforts through data-driven medicinal chemistry strategies, with the goal of delivering high-quality drug candidates in a collaborative CRO environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic & Scientific:
- Design and synthesize novel chemical entities (NCEs) guided by SAR and target profile.
- Contribute to lead identification and optimization in FTE or integrated drug discovery (IDD) projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., biology, ADME, computational chemistry) to advance candidate selection.
- Analyze biological and ADME data to refine compound design strategies.
Operational:
- Plan and execute multistep organic syntheses with minimal supervision.
- Characterize compounds using NMR, LCMS, HPLC, and other analytical tools.
- Maintain detailed and accurate experimental records (ELN/lab notebooks).
- Deliver high-purity compounds on time to meet client/project goals.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Actively participate in team meetings, project reviews, and client discussions.
- Coordinate with analytical and biology teams for data turnaround and integration.
- Present experimental results and SAR insights to internal and external stakeholders.
Compliance & Documentation:
- Follow lab safety protocols and maintain GLP/GMP (where applicable).
- Ensure adherence to SOPs and maintain project documentation for IP protection and client reporting.
Qualification & Experience:
- M.Sc. with 3–8 years of relevant experience in a CRO environment.
- Proven expertise in synthetic organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry principles.
- Experience in client-facing discovery projects is strongly preferred.
Key Skills & Competencies:
- Deep understanding of SAR, pharmacophores, and drug-likeness criteria.
- Strong skills in synthetic planning, reaction optimization, and troubleshooting.
- Excellent communication and data presentation abilities.
- Ability to multitask and work effectively in a high-paced, collaborative environment.
