Job Description

The Institute for Protein Innovation (IPI)is a nonprofit research organization advancing protein science to accelerate research and improve human health. Founded in 2017 and located in Boston’s Longwood Medical Area, the Institute’s three-pronged strategy is to build protein tools, conduct related internal research and develop educational programs for the protein science and biological research communities.

Primary Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities are associated with conducting and assisting in advancing the antibody discovery pipeline. Daily activities include assisting with the antibody discovery pipeline at IPI by performing yeast and phage display-based selection of antibodies using flow cytometry or magnetic sorting, using molecular biology techniques to produce libraries, analyzing and recording data using electronic notebooks and LIMS, and organizing, reporting, and presenting data.

  • Conducting experiments and working on various research problems.
  • Participating in a wide variety of ongoing scientific projects within the team.
  • Coordinating scheduling, product delivery and data sharing across the Antibody Platform teams.
  • Maintaining detailed records of experimental protocols and data in an electronic laboratory notebook in accordance with the Institute’s policy.
  • Troubleshooting routine technical problems.

Qualifications

  • Experience with basic microbiology, protein biochemistry, and molecular biology techniques such as microorganism culture, PCR, and electrophoresis.
  • Experience with phage and yeast display, flow cytometry, LIMS and electronic notebooks desirable and helpful, but not required.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills and highly attentive to details
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate within a team-based environment is required
  • Enthusiastic team member with strong commitment to IPI’s mission and a desire to conduct impactful science
  • B.S. or M.S. in a life sciences or biological field of study is required
