Job Description
Job Title: Research Associate
Location: Sapien Biosciences, Hyderabad
Reporting to: Senior Scientist
Position Overview:
This is a junior-level, applied, and clinically oriented research position at Sapien Biosciences,
Hyderabad. The selected candidate will support laboratory-based research involving human
tissues, blood-derived cells, and molecular assays. The role requires a minimum of 1 year of
hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture and related laboratory techniques, along with
strong documentation and organizational skills.
Key Responsibilities:
All these activities and responsibilities listed below are generally part of the scientific projects
handled by Sapien and will be performed as per project requirements, wherever applicable
A) Cell Culture & Microscopy
- Establish and maintain primary human cell cultures and established cell lines from
tissues and blood samples. - Perform routine QC assays, including mycoplasma testing.
- Assist in light microscopy, immunofluorescence, and flow cytometry (FACS) for cell
characterization as and when required for the projects.
B) Patient Sample Processing - Isolate lymphocytes (e.g., PBMCs) and other cell populations from human blood and
other samples.
C) Drug & Biomarker Evaluation - Conduct in vitro assays to evaluate drugs, biomarkers, and formulations using human
skin tissue, and 2D/3D cell culture models in 96- and 384-well formats. - Perform assays for cell proliferation, cytotoxicity, ELISA, and stem cell marker
expression. - Record and analyze experimental results; prepare data summaries, reports, and
presentations using Excel and PowerPoint templates.
D) Histology & Molecular Biology - Support IHC and ISH experiments (experience preferred).
- Isolate DNA, RNA, and protein from tissues, blood, and cultured cells.
- Perform PCR assays for selected genes as per project requirements.
E) Documentation, Inventory & Teamwork - Maintain accurate and up-to-date SOPs, experimental records, and lab notebooks in
compliance with lab and client quality standards. - Manage laboratory inventory, including tracking and replenishment of reagents,
consumables, and supplies. - Work collaboratively with the scientific and biobank teams for experiment planning,
literature review, and workflow coordination.
Essential Qualifications and Experience: - M.Sc. / M.Tech in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or
a related Life Science discipline. - Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture and associated
laboratory techniques. - Practical experience with molecular biology assays, immunoassays, and cell-based
experiments. - Knowledge of inventory management and basic laboratory operations.
- Strong organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently as part of a collaborative research team.
Desired Qualifications and Skills: - Experience in cell-based assays including viability, proliferation, and cytotoxicity
studies. - Knowledge of cell counting, plating, and assay setup in 96- and 384-well formats.
- Working knowledge of molecular biology and protein quantification techniques.
- Experience with immunohistochemistry (IHC), ELISA, and PCR assays.
- Hands-on experience in handling primary cultures and processing patient-derived
samples. - Familiarity with sterile techniques and biosafety practices for handling human-derived
materials
