Colossal is looking for a talented research associate in cell biology with an interest in the derivation, characterization, and gene editing from non-model mammalian organisms. You will work closely with other lab team members in efforts to innovate on protocols of genome editing, reprogramming and lineage differentiation using cutting edge technologies. 

This position is based on-site in Dallas, TX. Relocation assistance is available. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Derive and characterize stable cell lines from primary tissues 
  • Microdissection skills for cell line derivations
  • Test novel cell culture conditions and delivery methods to optimize gene editing
  • Expand clonal cell lines for cryopreservation, genotyping and QC assays
  • Develop cell assays to perform genotype to phenotype predictions 
  • Work with team members to integrate targeting, genotyping and QC workflows 
  • Schedule, analyze and execute experiments to deliver on project milestones
  • Attend lab meetings, prepares reports and presentations on the progress of projects
  • Demonstrate great organizational skills and excellent laboratory record maintenance

Required Schedule:

  • Once onboarding is complete, this role will have a non-traditional workweek. The individual in this role will have 2 days off per week, but that may not be Saturday/Sunday. The individual must be available to work weekends. 

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in primary cell line derivation, culture optimization and cryopreservation
  • Experience with electroporation and transfection to maximize gene delivery and viability 
  • Experience immunostaining cells for flow cytometry and fluorescent microscopy
  • Exceptional aseptic technique as antibiotic free cultures are standard
  • Organized and comfortable multi-tasking to deliver on concurrent projects on time 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as creative problem-solving skills

Preferred Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with high throughput imaging platforms and data analysis
  • Experience with automated cell culture systems 
  • Experience with stem cell culture, such as mouse embryonic stem cells (mESC) or induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) 

Education and Experience:

  • BA/BS/MA/MS in biological sciences, bioengineering, molecular biology, genetics, or any science related field.
