Job Description

The Srivastava Lab in the Division of Hematology at Thomas Jefferson University is seeking a motivated Research Technician to join our team. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to exciting research on the role of platelets and platelet-derived extracellular vesicles in neurological disorders.

We are looking for candidates with prior hands-on experience in animal handling, as these skills are essential for the role. Applicants without this background will not be a match for the position. Candidates must also already have authorization to work in the United States, as we are unable to provide visa sponsorship.

Team members will develop technical expertise, contribute to publications, and participate in career development opportunities. This role provides excellent preparation for individuals considering graduate or professional school, or those interested in building a long-term research career.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and genotype rodent colonies; coordinate breeding for ALS mouse models.
  • Assist with survival surgeries and procedures for focal ischemia models (training provided if needed).
  • Perform behavior testing, motor function scoring, and survival tracking.
  • Process tissue and cells: perfusion, sectioning, histology, immunofluorescence, and imaging.
  • Execute molecular assays: RNA/DNA extraction, qPCR, Western blot, ELISA; prepare libraries with senior staff guidance.
  • Support cell culture (endothelial cells, MEG-01) and routine maintenance.
  • Manage lab inventories, ordering, and equipment maintenance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, neuroscience, physiology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in animal handling and surgical procedures.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and animal welfare regulations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Skills

Experience with developing the middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) rodent model or handling ALS animal models is highly preferred.
