We are seeking an experienced and motivated Research Technician to join our discovery lab in Durham, and contribute to cutting-edge experimental work supporting multiple therapeutic programs. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, scientific curiosity, and a proactive mindset to drive high-quality lab execution in a collaborative environment. Employment Type: Full-Time, 6-month contract (with potential conversion)
Compensation range: $30–$38 per hour, commensurate with experience
Classification: Non-exempt (hourly)

Position Overview
Persephoni BioPartners is seeking a motivated Research Technician / Research Associate to support discovery-stage research in our RTP laboratory. This is a hands-on bench role focused on executing cell culture and RNA-based molecular biology workflows that generate high-quality, decision-driving data across multiple therapeutic programs. The Technician will work closely with scientists and program managers in a fast-paced, collaborative environment typical of a venture-backed discovery organization.
This role is not focused on animal work, GMP manufacturing, or clinical laboratory operations.
Key Skills
Cell Culture & Molecular Biology
- Maintain mammalian cell cultures (cell lines and primary cells) using aseptic technique (BSL-2)
- Perform routine passaging, cell counting, treatments, screening, and cryopreservation
- Execute RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, and RT-qPCR for multiple targets and samples
- Operate and troubleshoot qPCR systems, thermal cyclers, plate readers, and related equipment
- Collaborate with scientists to optimize protocols and resolve experimental issues
Data Analysis & Documentation
- Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data (e.g., ΔΔCt calculations)
- Generate tables and figures using Excel and/or GraphPad Prism
- Maintain accurate, industry-grade experimental records in an electronic lab notebook (ELN)
Laboratory Operations & Safety
- Prepare and maintain reagents, buffers, and media
- Ensure tissue culture and laboratory spaces are clean, stocked, and functional
- Follow all biosafety, chemical safety, and waste disposal protocols
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, or a related science field required
- Master’s degree preferred
Experience & Technical Skills
- 2–4+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in academic or industry research settings (industry experience preferred)
- Strong proficiency in mammalian cell culture
- Experience with RNA isolation and RT-PCR or qPCR
- Familiarity with RNA handling best practices and RNase-free techniques
- Experience generating and interpreting primary experimental data (not just running protocols)
- Experience with ELNs and structured record-keeping preferred
Data & Analysis
- Comfortable analyzing experimental data using Excel and/or GraphPad Prism
- Ability to perform basic calculations, generate plots, and interpret results
- Understanding of basic statistical concepts (mean, standard deviation, etc.)
Additional Skills (Nice to Have)
- Primer design or sequencing data interpretation
- siRNA or oligonucleotide-based experiments
- Flow cytometry, fluorescent imaging, or molecular cloning
These skills are not required but may be developed on the job.

- Strong attention to detail and organization
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work collaboratively in a team environment
