Job Description
The Division of Hematology at Thomas Jefferson University is seeking a motivated Research Technician/Research Assistant to join our team. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to research examining the role of platelets and platelet-derived extracellular vesicles in neurological disorders. Candidates with prior, hands-on experience in animal handling and surgical procedures will be strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Perform animal handling, breeding, care, and surgical procedures in accordance with institutional and federal guidelines.
- Assist with experimental design, data collection, and record-keeping.
- Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with safety and animal welfare protocols.
- Support senior researchers and students with technical aspects of their projects.
- Contribute to general lab management, including inventory and ordering of supplies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in biology, neuroscience, physiology, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in animal handling and surgical procedures.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety practices and animal welfare regulations.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in developing middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) animal model
- Familiarity with data collection and analysis software
- Prior work in a research laboratory setting
