Job Description
We’re looking for a sharp, science-literate generalist who’s as comfortable drafting a LinkedIn post as they are holding a conversation about CRISPR delivery vectors. This is a hybrid community-building and growth role where you’ll own the connective tissue between Phylo and the academic biology world — running our community channels, forging partnerships with top labs, and creatively getting the word out about what we’re building.
This is ideal for a early career or current master’s/PhD student who wants real startup experience without leaving academia. You’ll wear many hats and work directly with the founders.
What You’ll Do
- Lab Program Operations: Help manage and scale our lab program — coordinating onboarding, gathering feedback, and ensuring research labs get the most out of Biomni Lab.
- University Ambassador Program: Build and run a university ambassador program to drive adoption among graduate students, postdocs, and PIs at top research institutions.
- Community Building: Nurture and grow our community of 8,400+ scientists — organizing events (virtual and in-person), facilitating discussions, and surfacing power users and champions.
- Content & Communications: Draft newsletters, email campaigns, and educational content tailored to a scientific audience. Help craft messaging that translates complex biology for broader reach.
- Partnership Support: Help coordinate partnerships with research institutions, biotech companies, and scientific organizations.
- Event Coordination: Help plan and execute our presence at scientific conferences, workshops, and community meetups.
- Whatever You Dream Up: The world’s your oyster in this role; we want someone who sees opportunities we haven’t thought of yet and runs with them. If you have an idea for how to grow a scientific community, we want to hear it.
Who You Are
- Science background strongly preferred. Biology, bioengineering, molecular biology, genomics, or adjacent fields. You can read a paper abstract and actually understand it.
- Current undergrad, master’s, or PhD student (or recent grad). You’re early in your career but intellectually ambitious.
- Clear, confident communicator. You write well, you speak well, and you’re not afraid to cold-email a PI at a top lab.
- Excitement for community marketing and virality. You’re already have a feel for what works in building communities – online and offline; you’re excited to contribute to the Phylo brand and leadership in the AI for science space.
- Builder mentality. You thrive in ambiguity, take ownership, and don’t wait to be told what to do.
- Comfortable in the room. You can hold your own in conversations with PhDs and lab directors without being one (yet).
Nice to Have
- Experience leading student organizations (e.g., Nucleate) or managing an online community (e.g., Slack, Discord, forums)
- Prior internship or project work in biotech, life sciences, or a research lab
- Proficiency with AI tools like Claude Code/Cowork, Notion, Canva, Figma, etc.
- A personal social media presence that shows you understand content and audience
- Event planning experience (even informal – hackathons, club events, meetups count)
- A portfolio of past work – include a link in your application and we’ll definitely look at it!
Details
- Type: Part-time (15–20 hrs/week), with potential to grow
- Compensation: Competitive hourly rate
- Location: On-site/hybrid in South San Francisco
