ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior/Principal Scientist with a background in protein/antibody engineering, recombinant expression and purification, and biochemical & biophysical characterization to join our growing R&D team. You will bring your expertise to contribute actively to characterization, validation, and differentiation of novel therapeutic concepts for rapid progression of preclinical biologics development against autoimmune diseases. This is an exceptional opportunity for someone excited about drug discovery and development who is driven to translate our findings into novel therapeutics while being mentored by experienced scientists.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead protein/antibody expression and purification (transient and stable expression), stable CHO pool and clone generation for lead candidates
- Support protein/antibody and bispecific antibody engineering, vector engineering and recombinant protein production (transient and stable expression)
- Design, develop, and execute biophysical assays supporting developability assessment at different stages of lead characterization
- Support oversight of outsourced activities for lead antibody screening, protein production and analytics
- Carry out cell line engineering and development to support cell-based potency assays.
- Support functional validation using cell-based immunoassays, immune cell profiling, cytokine profiling at different stages of lead characterization
- Collaborate and develop close scientific partnerships with other functional teams
- Help build a culture that embraces scientific excellence and continuous learning to increase our team’s ability to deliver novel drug development opportunities through rapid incorporation of emerging techniques on the leading-edge of drug discovery
QUALIFICATIONS
- PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related field with 3-5+ years of industry experience, or master’s/bachelor’s with 10–12+ years of relevant experience
- Proven expertise in protein and antibody expression using mammalian systems, along with purification via chromatography techniques (affinity, SEC, IEX, HIC) and operation of FPLC systems (e.g., AKTA) along with expertise in developing and applying methods related to liquid phase chromatography for biologics
- Well-versed in vector design and transient and stable cell line development (e.g., CRISPR/Cas systems, lentiviral platforms, cell sorting, cell banking)
- Experience in protein engineering, including bispecific/multi-specific antibodies and Fc-fusion constructs, highly valued
- Extensive experience with biochemical and biophysical characterization methods (e.g., HPLC/UPLC, DSC, icIEF, SPR, BLI, ELISA, WB, CE-based assays); experience with mass spectrometry is a plus
- Experience with immune cell–based assays, cytokine assays, qPCR, multi-color flow cytometry a plus
- Experience mentoring junior team members beneficial
