Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated research technician to join the Zaugg group at EMBL Heidelberg, an interdisciplinary team of experimental and computational scientists.

Our research combines large-scale multi-omics and computational approaches to understand how genetic, epigenetic, and microenvironmental cues shape cellular phenotypes, with a strong focus on hematopoiesis and hematological malignancies. Supported by an ERC Consolidator Grant, we study the human bone marrow microenvironment using primary human material, animal and tissue culture models, and state-of-the-art single-cell and spatial technologies.

As a research technician you will work closely together with the experimentalists in the group, and will make core scientific contributions to multiple research projects. The work will be carried out in a highly collaborative environment using cutting-edge technologies, with various possibilities to acquire new skills and techniques.

Research Technician - EMBL Heidelberg

Your role:

  • Experimental support: molecular biology, cell culture, flow cytometry, single-cell methods, sequencing library preparations, microscopy
  • General lab management: lab organization and maintenance, scientific documentation, data and protocol management

You have:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree (or equivalent) plus experience in life sciences research setting (academic or industry)
  • Skills in molecular biology and tissue culture
  • Experience with flow cytometry and/or microscopy (immunofluorescence)
  • Experience with transcriptomic or epigenomic library preparations of 1 or more NGS-based methods (e.g., RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, Hi-C)
  • Highly motivated and proactive personality, with collaborative team spirit to integrate into a multidisciplinary team
  • Excellent communication skills and proficiency in spoken and written English

You may also have:

  • Experience with single-cell methods (10x Genomics, SMART-seq2, etc.)
  • Experience with gene perturbation methods (CRISPR, RNAi, etc.)
  • Experience with multiplexed imaging and/or spatial transcriptomics

Contract length: fixed term contract (app. 22 months)

Salary: Grade 4 or 5; depending on experience and qualifications (monthly salary starting from €3,704 after tax, excl. pension & insurances) + benefits
