The Department of Biotechnology and Food Science, Institute of Cell and Tissue Culture
Technologies is currently seeking a Technical specialist/Laboratory assistant

Extent of employment: 30 hours per week
Duration of employment: 1 st of October 2025, limited to 30 th of September 2026
(with the option to permanent extension)
Workplace: 1190 Vienna, Muthgasse 11 and 18
Allocation in compliance with the Collective Agreement for University Staff to job group: IIIa
Gross monthly salary and pay grade in terms of collective agreement for university staff: € 2.024,40 (payable 14 times per year)
The Institute of Cell and Tissue Culture Technologies of the Department of Biotechnology and Food Science at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences is looking for a dynamic, self-organized and proactive personality who would like to support the institute in organizing everyday laboratory life with joy and enthusiasm. In addition to the maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment, the tasks include ordering, but also practical work in various scientific (third-party funded) projects as well as preparation of exercises and assistance in instructing students. Knowledge of English is absolutely necessary as we are an international team and meetings in teams and the institute are held in English.
Responsibilities
- Laboratory organization (Lab Management)
- Ordering laboratory materials, maintenance and servicing of devices and instruments, regular activities/routine work
- Sterile cell culture work, creation and maintenance of cell culture banks, freezing/thawing of cells
- Cell culture of primary stem cells and cell lines
- Carrying out common standard analysis and biological assays
- Work and documentation according to existing SOPs
- Optimization of workflows
- Participation in instructing students and preparing exercises
Desirable skills and qualifications - Completed vocational training in relevant fields (e.g. biotechnology, medical technology)
- Team spirit
- Independent and self-organized working style
- Language skills: very good English is essential, very good German language skills desirable/advantageous
- Experience with adherent cell culture is advantageous
- Previous work experience / experience in lab management desirable
