Position Overview:
Cystine Bioscience is seeking a Biologist in Maryland to advance the development of next-generation universal vaccines and antiviral therapeutics for high-pathogenicity respiratory diseases. Working in BSL-2 and BSL-3 environments, you will utilize advanced techniques, including single-cell RNA sequencing and viral microneutralization to identify immune correlates and evaluate therapeutic efficacy. This is a premier opportunity for a collaborative scientist to drive meaningful public health impact within a sophisticated laboratory setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the advancement of next-generation universal influenza and betacoronavirus vaccines, as well as antiviral therapeutics targeting 1918 H1N1, highly pathogenic avian, and zoonotic influenza infections.
- Execute complex antibody titration and epitope analysis using HAI, NAI, ELISA, and viral microneutralization assays.
- Conduct high-throughput screening for antiviral drug discovery and vaccine immune correlate studies.
- Perform essential molecular biology workflows, including RNA isolation, molecular cloning, and PCR.
- Manage cell culture maintenance and the production of viral and vaccine stocks.
- Conduct research within BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratory settings, adhering to all safety protocols including the use of Powered Air-Purifying Respirators (PAPR).
- Participate in specialized Biosurety and Select Agent personnel programs.
- Utilize the 10x Genomics platform to perform single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and prepare single-cell suspensions.
- Oversee laboratory upkeep, including equipment maintenance and the procurement of biological and chemical supplies.
- Maintain rigorous experimental records and prepare findings for internal meetings and peer-reviewed publications.
- Collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team to generate high-quality data in a respectful, interactive environment.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Virology, Immunology, or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of professional research experience with a strong focus on molecular biology or virology.
- Proven experience working in a BSL-3 environment with PAPR respiratory protection.
- Demonstrated proficiency in antibody titration and characterization assays.
- Experience with high-throughput immunology or virology screening assays is highly preferred.
