Job description
Our client is hiring a R&D Scientist focused on microbiome research.
You will combine lab based work with bioinformaticsto advance studies in microbial community models plus host interaction biology. This is an industrial R&D environment where innovation is key, so you will be expected to translate scientific insight into practical next steps, work well in a top down structure, collaborate cross functionally plus engage with external partners when needed.
Key responsibilities
You will own key research activities across discovery plus development.
- Study design: Plan execute plus optimise wet lab experiments on skin microbiome dynamics
- Multi omics integration: Lead profiling studies plus connect results to biological mechanisms
- Model development: Develop and refine bacterial or community-level models, including co-culture systems, host-microbe assays, and microbial consortia experiments
- Data interpretation: Analyse results rigorously plus extract actionable scientific insights
- Cross functional collaboration: Integrate findings into the broader R and D pipeline
- Quality standards: Drive reproducibility troubleshooting plus SOP development improvements
- Scientific communication: Produce reports present internally plus contribute to publications or patents
Requirements
We are looking for a scientist with microbiome expertise plus hands on delivery.
- PhD or master with industry experience in: microbiology, molecular biology, systems biology, immunology, bioengineering or related field
- Host microbe knowledge: Strong foundation in immunology or host microbe interaction biology
- Multi omics capability: Experience analysing metagenomics, metabolomics, metatranscriptomics, proteomics or similar datasets
- Wet lab expertise: Bacterial plus mammalian culture cloning qPCR sequencing workflows cell based assays imaging or functional assays
- Experimental ownership: Proven ability to conceive design plus execute studies with strong documentation
- Stakeholder communication: Ability to explain results clearly to technical plus non technical audiences
- Drafting planning and capability to look at the broader picture and to intercept risks and impact on the activities execution. E.g. The scientist is expected to be in lead of specific WPs within a project and this entails as well defining timelines and keeping those up to date.
- Strong team player who thrives in collaboration and is fully open to taking on cross‑functional responsibilities across different areas of the organization
Nice to have
- Industrial R&D experience in a life sciences environment
- Previous skin microbiome experience
- Bioinformatics workflow design plus implementation experience
- Microbial ecology modelling or microbial interaction network experience
- Experience with anaerobic culturing plus complex community experiments
