PhD opportunity at the intersection of genome engineering, cancer and developmental biology – Germany

March 27, 2026

Job Description

We are excited to share a PhD opportunity at the intersection of genome engineering, cancer and developmental biology!

A PhD position is available at Heidelberg University and DKFZ in the department of Michael Boutros as part of the SFB 1324 – a DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center bringing together more than 60 scientists to investigate the mechanisms and functions of Wnt signaling. Wnt signaling plays a fundamental role in tissue patterning, stem cell homeostasis, and differentiation, and is very frequently dysregulated in human cancer.

In this project, the candidate will develop and apply advanced CRISPR-based genome engineering methods across multiple model systems to uncover how Wnt proteins are produced, distributed, and transduced into biological responses.

The lab is a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative environment, offering training across a wide range of wet and dry lab techniques. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with a background in molecular biology, cell and developmental/cancer biology, or biochemistry.
