Job Description
We’re hiring! 🚨
I’m excited to share that the Ryan Lab at Trinity College Dublin is recruiting a Research Assistant to join our new team in the School of Biochemistry and Immunology, based in the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute.
This is a great opportunity for a motivated early-career researcher interested in mitochondrial biology, immunology, inflammation, infection, metabolism, or primary mitochondrial disease.
The role will initially focus on primary macrophages from mitochondrial disease models to understand how pathogenic mitochondrial DNA mutations reshape cellular metabolism and innate immune responses.
The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience across areas such as:
🧫 Primary macrophage culture
🧬 Molecular biology and genotyping
🔥 Inflammatory and infection-associated assays
📊 Cytokine, metabolic, and immunological readouts
🐭 Mouse-model-linked sample workflows
🔬 A growing programme in mitochondrial immunometabolism
The post is funded by a Wellcome Trust Career Development Award and would be particularly suited to someone looking to build strong research experience before potentially pursuing a PhD.
📍 Location: Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute, Trinity College Dublin
📅 Anticipated start: Flexible, ideally September 2026
⏰ Closing date: 12 noon, 15 June 2026
Please share widely — and do get in touch if you know someone who might be a great fit!
