Job Description
🔬 Are you passionate about tissue engineering, microfluidics, and 3D printing? We are offering a 6-month internship in the #RegMed team at imec to design a multi-layered osteochondral unit-on-chip for studying osteoarthritis initiation.
🔍What’s the project about?
You will design, fabricate, and test an organ-on-chip featuring stacked compartments for cartilage and bone, enabling inter-compartment communication while maintaining distinct environments. The challenges?
✔ Precise hydrogel injection
✔ Preventing leakages in multilayered structures
✔ Compatibility with high-resolution imaging
🛠 What you’ll learn
· CAD design & 3D printing for microfluidics
· Basic cell culture in BSL2
· Hydrogel handling & cell encapsulation
· Confocal microscopy & fluorescence imaging
📍 Location: imec, Leuven, Belgium
📅 Duration: Minimum 6 months
🧑🎓 Profile: Student following an engineering or master’s degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, sciences, or a related field.
