Position Summary

The Associate Director of Business Development promotes Akron Biotech’s portfolio of products to key customers and builds strong, long-term business relationships. This individual will drive sales growth, expand market presence, and contribute to Akron’s mission of accelerating the development of advanced cell and gene therapies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Achieve regional sales targets on a quarterly basis in accordance with the annual sales plan for the US west territory.
  • Qualify, establish, develop, and maintain customer relationships for relevant accounts within the assigned territory.
  • Develop and implement strategies for expanding key account business by building trust and robust relationships with target customers.
  • Report field activity, customer feedback, and competitive insights to the Vice President of Commercial.
  • Maintain a thorough technical understanding of company products, their applications, and related scientific publications.
  • Develop and maintain a customer database for all relevant accounts within the sales region.
  • Apply effective negotiation skills to achieve positive sales outcomes.
  • Document all customer interactions in the company’s CRM system.
  • Develop and maintain a business plan to forecast and achieve sales goals.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with regional and global business development leaders.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, business, marketing, or a related field.
  • Based in the western United States
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (SAP preferred) for quote generation and order placement.
  • 3–5 years of B2B life science sales experience; cell and gene therapy experience highly preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with a proven track record in customer engagement and relationship building.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and digital communication tools
  • Experience with CRM systems for relationship management (Salesforce or similar platform preferred)
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply technical product knowledge to effectively promote products.
  • Proven ability to work remotely while proactively driving growth in a defined sales territory.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Willingness to travel ~30% of the time.
