JOB OPENING – PC_30122025
About the position:
We are seeking a Scientist (Fermentation) to lead the development and optimization of microbial fermentation processes for enzyme production. You will design, run, and scale fermentation processes from shake flask to 50L scale, ensuring high yield, stability, and cost-effective production.
This is a hands-on, high-impact role in a fast-moving startup environment.
About us:
We are an early stage startup, developing protein engineering solutions for recycling plastic waste.
Position:
Scientist (Fermentation) – Full time.
Essential qualification & experience:
Graduates (B.E, B.Tech) in Biotechnology or related fields with minimum of 5 years of experience in microbial fermentation or Post Graduates (MSc, MS, M.Tech) in Biotechnology or Microbiology or fermentation technology or related fields with minimum of 4 years of experience in microbial fermentation.
Preferred but not essential
- Experience with industrial enzyme production
- Experience scaling processes beyond 10 L
- Exposure to GMP or pilot-scale manufacturing
- Startup or fast-paced R&D experience
Location:
Bangalore. May need to travel or work from other locations.
Key responsibilities:
- Design and optimize microbial fermentation processes for enzyme expression (bacteria, yeast, or fungi)
- Design experiments (DoE) to optimize fermentation conditions (develop media formulations, feeding strategies, and induction protocols)
- Run batch or fed-batch fermentations
- Monitor and control fermentation parameters (pH, DO, temperature, agitation, substrate, metabolites)
- Troubleshoot scale-up issues (oxygen transfer, foaming, contamination, yield loss)
- Scale processes from shake flasks → benchtop bioreactors → 50L scale
- Optimize titre, yield, activity and other parameters
- Work with downstream processing to improve recovery and purity
- Analyze enzyme activity, stability, and consistency
- Provide inputs for manufacturing strategy and future facility needs
- Transfer processes to contract manufacturing organizations (CMOs)
- Identify cost-reduction and efficiency improvements
- Work closely with other teams
- Contribute to regulatory, IP, and scale-up documentation
- Maintain accurate batch records, analyze and interpret experimental data and write reports
- Actively participate in regular meetings
Remuneration:
As per the experience and industry standards.
