The Diabetes, Obesity and Complications Therapeutic Area (DOCTA) of Eli Lilly and Company focuses on the discovery of biologic, small molecule, and genetic therapeutics for the treatment of diabetes, obesity, and associated complications.
We are seeking a skilled and motivated individual who can help build a highly collaborative, successful drug discovery and development team in the Obesity research group in Boston. A successful candidate will use their strong in vivo pharmacology background and complementary laboratory and/or in vitro skills to play a critical role in supporting discovery efforts and established pipeline projects with an emphasis on anti-obesity therapeutics. You will be responsible for setting up critical capabilities in the laboratory setting and working with other scientists within and across departments to achieve project and department goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and independently implement in vivo experiments to support preclinical characterization and evaluation of targets/pathways that regulate energy balance.
- Perform routine rodent handling, dosing, and small animal surgeries, including but not limited to parenteral routes of administration.
- Perform molecular and biochemical assessments on ex vivo samples in collaboration with colleagues in other departments.
- Function independently, work within a team-oriented lab environment, and work within cross-functional project teams.
- Maintain accurate record-keeping, perform independent data analysis, and report data in written and oral formats.
- Ensure full compliance with Lilly Research Policies and complete all required training activities within the specified timeframe.
Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. and/or M.S. in biology or a closely related field with 4+ years of experience
Additional Skills/Preferences:
- A background in the biology and physiology of energy balance regulation and metabolic disease – relevant models of obesity
- Experience with in situ hybridization, various assay detection technologies (fluorescence, luminescence, FRET, alpha-screen, ELISA assays), and the ability to implement and validate new assay technologies.
- Experience with imaging techniques and/or flow cytometry.
- Experience with assays to assess mitochondrial function including high-capacity respirometry
- Experience in primary cell isolation and downstream cell line work, including functional, molecular, and screening assays
- Demonstrated ability to work on cross-functional teams and projects.
- Strong communication skills and experience presenting data in a team environment.

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is$71,250 – $187,000
Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
