Job Description

🚀 PhD Opportunity — Human-Tailored Organoid-on-Chip Models for Women’s Health 🧫

Please help spread the word!
We’re looking for an outstanding candidate to nominate for an MRC CASE PhD studentship in collaboration with PeptiMatrix

This project will develop human-optimised organoid-on-chip models to study hormonal crosstalk between the fallopian tube and vaginal microbiome, advancing understanding of reproductive health, fertility, and infection.

🧠 What makes this exciting:
• Integrates microfluidic engineering with clinically derived human organoids
• Uses fully defined, animal-free ECMs (no Matrigel!) through partnership with Peptimatrix
• Models dynamic hormonal and microbial signalling across connected reproductive tissues
• Strong translational pathway toward diagnostics, therapeutics, and sustainable biotechnologies

👩‍🔬 Ideal candidate:
We’re seeking a motivated student with a background in biophysics, bioengineering, reproductive biology, or microbiology, and a passion for women’s health and new-generation in vitro models. Prior experience in cell culture, organoids, or microfluidics is advantageous but not essential.

🌍 Location: University of Manchester, with interdisciplinary supervision across Physics, Biology & Medicine, and the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology.
💡 Funding: MRC CASE DTP

If you’re excited by the idea of developing animal-free, human-relevant organ-on-chip systems that could transform women’s health research — or know someone who might be — please share this post or get in touch directly.
