A postdoctoral position is available in the NIH funded laboratory of Douglas H. Smith, M.D. in the Department of Neurosurgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
The main focus of the lab is investigating the mechanisms driving both acute and chronic outcomes following traumatic brain injury. We employ a range of techniques including in vitro cell culture, immunofluorescence, histopathology, biochemistry, molecular biology and translational animal models.
The preferred applicant will have experience in in vitro cell culture techniques as well as having a strong publication record and understanding of research methodology. Excellent writing and interpersonal skills are desirable. Applicants should have a broad neuroscience background as well as an interest in neurotrauma, including mechanisms of axonal injury and neurodegeneration. A Ph.D, M.D., or equivalent degree is required.
