Job Overview

Job Description

Deadline: 31/10/2025

Envisaged Job Starting Date:

1st December, 2025

A postdoctoral position is available in the BioNanoPlasmonics Laboratory, led by Prof. Luis Liz-Marzán. The successful candidate will develop and optimize advanced 3D breast cancer models for drug screening applications.

The tumour microenvironment (TME) plays a critical role in cancer progression and is increasinly being studied as a chemotherapeutic drug target. Specifically, antibody-drug conjugated (ADCs) are of special interest due to their limited off-target cytotoxic effects. The postdoctoral position offered will focus on developing and optimising an in vitro TME model for ADC screening. The position is directly linked to an industrial project and is for a period of 1 year (maximum).

We are looking for a qualified researcher with experience in cancer cell biology and in vitro cell/tissue models. The candidate must feel confident with histology and confocal laser scanning microscopy. Knowledge of rheology and “omics” sciences will be considered advantageous. The candidate should expect to work in a multidisciplinary and collaborative environment with key responsibilities including conducting independent and collaborative research, data processing and analysis, and preparation of presentations, scientific manuscripts, and internal reports. Proactive communication with peers and project supervisors Dr. Malou Henriksen-Lacey and Prof. Luiz Liz-Marzán is essential.

The project is to be carried out at CIC biomaGUNE, a vibrant multidisciplinary and international research institute in San Sebastian, Spain. CIC biomaGUNEhas established a state-of-the-art research program at the interface between the chemical, biological and physical sciences. It offers excellent working conditions and is well equipped with instrumentation and facilities.

Required Education Level:

A PhD in a relevant area of Cancer biology, Biotechnology, Biomaterials Science, Biochemistry, or related areas.

Experience in the fields of biomaterial design, advanced 3D cell culture, organoid culture, fluorescence confocal microscopy, and histology is highly desirable.

Prior experience in rheology, proteomics, and transcriptomics will be considered an advantage.

Required Skills/Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Doctoral degree at the time of hiring. The candidate is expected to have an interest in multidisciplinary work, and the capacity to work in an international environment. Excellent interpersonal skills as well as written and oral communication skills in English are required.
