Job Description
I’m hiring: Two Postdoctoral Researchers in Chemical Biology & Peptide Discovery (University of Glasgow) 🚨
I’m excited to advertise two postdoctoral positions in my research group to make a leading contribution to a multidisciplinary research program titled ‘Iterative simulation, artificial intelligence and machine learning-guided design of cyclic peptide aptamers based on structural characterisation of alpha-conotoxin/nAChR interactions’.
🔬 1. Postdoctoral Researcher – Membrane Protein Biochemistry & Biophysics
This role will focus on the isolation, stabilisation, and biophysical characterisation of membrane receptors, with particular interest in ligand-gated ion channels (e.g. nAChRs).
I am looking for candidates with:
• Strong expertise in membrane protein purification and stabilisation
• Experience with quantitative binding assays (e.g. SPR, FP)
• Practical experience handling biological tissue and membrane preparations
• Understanding of structural biology (cryo-EM/X-ray/computational modelling) and protein characterisation (mass spectrometry)
• Appreciation of computational/AI-guided ligand design

🧬 2. Postdoctoral Researcher – mRNA Display & Peptide Discovery
This role will drive discovery of novel macrocyclic peptide ligands using mRNA display and library screening technologies.
I am seeking candidates with:
• Expertise in mRNA display and macrocyclic peptide library selection
• Experience in protein immobilisation and target presentation
• Strong molecular biology skills (PCR, RT, cloning, library prep)
• Experience analysing NGS datasets and selection outputs
• Knowledge of peptide synthesis (SPPS) and characterisation workflows

💡 Important:
Applicants must clearly evidence how they meet the essential criteria in their application.
🌍 These positions sit within a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment spanning chemical biology, structural biology, and drug discovery, with strong links to our spin-out activities and international partners.
📅 Closing date: 11th May
If you are interested in pushing the boundaries of peptide-based therapeutics and working at the interface of chemistry and biology, I would be delighted to hear from you.
