Position Summary

AI Proteins is seeking a highly motivated and self-driven Research Associate to support the expression and purification of miniproteins for internal and external developability studies. The candidate will work closely with members of our Biochemistry team to support the execution and optimization of upstream and downstream miniprotein production processes. They will help to perform and optimize protocols for the small- and midi-scale production of miniproteins. The position is ideal for a candidate looking to expand their expertise in protein expression and purification using different automation tools. 

Responsibilities

Areas of specific responsibility and attention will include the following:

• High throughput production of miniproteins to be used for characterization assays and in vitro experiments across different internal and external programs. This includes:
  • DNA cloning and transformation in bacteria.
  • Bacterial culturing and preparation of lysate.
  • IMAC purification of miniproteins and characterization.
  • Set up and operation of the liquid handler lab equipment, such as Hamilton and Biomek i-series robots
• Support characterization of miniproteins to assess sample quality and purity such as SDS-PAGE, fluorometric quantification, and ultra-violet absorbance.
• Platform optimization and infrastructure improvements.
• Prepare internal reports, presentations, protocols and technical documents for internal use.
• Perform routine maintenance of lab equipment required for the expression and purification of miniproteins.
• Participate in internal team meetings by actively engaging in scientific and technical discussions.
• Make contributions to build and maintain a positive, team-oriented biotech culture.

Professional Experience/Qualifications

The ideal candidate has solid knowledge on the production of recombinant proteins from protein expression to final purification chromatographic processes. Specific required qualifications include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Chemistry, Biological Sciences, or other relevant science.
• Candidates should have a solid theoretical understanding in microbial culture (bacteria) and protein purification techniques (e.g. affinity chromatography, ion exchange chromatography, size exclusion chromatography, etc.). 
• Candidates with experience in relevant techniques for the expression and purification of recombinant proteins are highly encouraged to apply. 
• It is desirable that the candidate has a strong understanding of molecular biology techniques such as PCR and Golden Gate assembly.
• Strong organizational skills: Ability to multi-task with meticulous attention to detail; strategic at planning ahead and prioritizing.
• Strong communication skills: Effective cross-functional communicator, able to convey complex concepts and strategies in writing and presentations; receptive to diverse input and feedback.
• Talented problem solver: Strategic problem solver, self-directed, scientifically rigorous, and capable of carrying out complex technical projects.
• Highly energetic: Independent and proactive, able to thrive in dynamic settings, adaptable for a high-paced environment, and drive progress with creativity and determination.
