In the plan to create a new hub for mRNA-based vaccine discovery in Cambridge, we are building new laboratories that will be focused on the development of state-of-the-art methods that will be supporting deep product understanding, process and product development, as well as testing of pre-clinical and clinical samples for new vaccines.

The Scientific Leader, Flow Cytometry Technology at GSK Cambridge Park Drive, Boston, is a high-impact, innovative role dedicated to advancing flow cytometry applications that underpin vaccine development. In this position, you will be instrumental in driving operational excellence and pioneering new technological approaches in flow cytometry. Work alongside visionary scientists, lab heads, and leaders across the company to shape the future of preclinical research and further cement GSK’s leadership in vaccine innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Innovative Leadership:Collaborate with key stakeholders—including Scientists, Scientific Leaders, Lab Heads, and Function Heads—to evaluate and implement both established and emerging flow cytometry technologies, ensuring alignment with preclinical objectives and project milestones.
  • Hands-On Excellence:Provide on-site and virtual expertise by training users, troubleshooting equipment, and testing new applications in a dynamic laboratory setting.
  • Assay Development & Optimization:Spearhead the exploration, development, and integration of novel flow cytometry assays that generate high-quality, actionable data critical for business decisions.
  • Data Analysis: Provide advice and be actively involved in flow cytometry data analysis, by applying and implementing software and fit-for-purpose high dimensional analysis tools.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:Function as a matrix leader by effectively communicating and coordinating with multiple teams and departments, ensuring seamless integration of technical solutions across the organization.
  • Strategic Scientific Guidance:Offer industry-leading, strategic advice in flow cytometry to drive innovation in vaccine research and development, advising preclinical scientists, lab heads, and senior management.
  • External Partnership Cultivation:Build and maintain strong relationships with external scientific partners, vendors, and key opinion leaders to leverage new opportunities and accelerate vaccine discovery and development.
  • Innovation Catalyst:Constantly seek out the latest advances in flow cytometry technologies and applications, positioning GSK at the forefront of scientific discovery.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Ph.D. or M.S. degree in immunology, virology, medicine, biology or a related field. The required post-graduate work experience is 5+ years for a Ph.D. and 8+ years for an M.S.
  • At least 5 years of experience in Flow Cytometry applied to immunology or vaccine/pharmaceutical research. Demonstrated ability to establish and lead Core Flow Cytometry laboratories. Very good experience with flow cytometry data analysis and related tools.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Has an extended network of flow cytometry experts, key opinion leaders to exchange on technical aspects, and is abreast of latest technological and analytical developments in the field
  • Experience in vendor engagement
  • Data Science knowledge with application in the analysis and illustration of high-dimensional data
  • Excellent track record evidenced by peer-reviewed scientific publications
  • Ability to work independently, self-driven 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Excellent spoken and written English
