Job Overview

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced electrophysiologist with strong expertise in patch clamp techniques (manual and automated) to support ion channel research in drug discovery. The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing and executing experiments, analyzing data, and contributing to the development of novel therapeutics. This is an opportunity to work on cutting-edge ion channel research in a collaborative environment with exposure to multidisciplinary drug discovery projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate patch clamp systems (manual and automated) to study ion channel function.
  • Design, plan, and execute electrophysiology experiments to support discovery projects.
  • Analyze and interpret complex electrophysiological data; generate high-quality reports.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (biology, chemistry, pharmacology) to advance drug discovery programs.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and optimize protocols for efficiency and reproducibility.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and methodologies in ion channel research.

Qualifications

  • Education: Ph.D. in Electrophysiology, Neuroscience, Pharmacology, or related discipline or with relevant experience.
    • Experience: 2 to 5 Years Post-PhD or 7-10yr post Masters of hands-on experience in:
      • Manual and automated patch clamp systems.
      • Ion channel characterization and functional assays.
  • Strong understanding of ion channel physiology and pharmacology.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (such as pCLAMP, PatchMaster) and statistical tools.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in manual as well as high-throughput automated patch clamp platforms (e.g., Sophion, Nanion).
  • Proficiency in isolating primary neurons and differentiating neurons from induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) for functional assays and disease modeling.
  • Familiarity with drug discovery workflows.
  • Ability to mentor junior scientists and contribute to method development.
