Job Description
🔬 PhD Position in Neuroscience – University of Pavia
I am recruiting a highly motivated PhD student to join my research team at the Università di Pavia within the framework of the project:
“From Genes to Virtual Brain: defining the pathogenic mechanisms promoting α-synuclein seeding and spreading in Parkinson’s disease” (starting 2026).
The project combines stem cell biology, advanced imaging, and electrophysiology to study molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying Parkinson’s disease. The PhD candidate will focus on patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and their differentiation into neuronal models, exploring how genetic and molecular factors contribute to disease progression.
We offer:
-A 3-year fully funded PhD studentship.
-Training in cutting-edge methodologies (iPSC culture, neuronal differentiation, confocal microscopy, biomarker analysis, high-density micro-electrode array recordings).
-A collaborative research environment with strong translational impact.
Requirements:
*MSc degree in Biology, Biotechnology, Neurobiology, or related fields.
*Hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture (stem cell or neuronal differentiation experience is a plus).
*Strong motivation, interest in neurodegeneration, and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
📍 Location: Pavia, Italy
📅 Start date: early 2026
