The Majmundar Lab at Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School
investigates the pathogenic mechanisms of genetic kidney disease, with a
focus on monogenic forms of nephrotic syndrome (NS). We employ an
integrated approach spanning genomics, cell biology, proteomics, and mouse
models to dissect disease mechanisms with the long-term goal of developing
new therapies for children with these conditions.

The laboratory is in the Division of Nephrology at Boston Children’s Hospital in
the Longwood Medical Area, with access to state-of-the-art core facilities and a
rich collaborative environment across Harvard Medical School. This is a multi-
year position with opportunity for extension through fellow-driven grant
opportunities.
Research Areas

• Delineating pathogenic mechanisms of NS/FSGS (focal segmental
  glomerulosclerosis) downstream of the essential podocyte disease protein
  NOS1AP (see key papers here and here), including two candidate
  interaction partners we have identified with therapeutic potential.
• Employing mouse models and podocyte culture techniques to establish
  whether downstream signaling proteins are protective in NS/FSGS as
  proof-of-concept.
• Generating iPSC-derived kidney organoid models as a parallel system for
  disease modeling and evaluation of potential therapies in NS/FSGS.
  Key Responsibilities
• Design and execute experiments using immortalized and primary
  podocyte culture, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, and mouse models of
  kidney disease.
• Establish, maintain, and employ iPSC-derived systems for modeling
  kidney disease.
• Independently analyze and interpret experimental data, troubleshoot
  approaches, and iterate on study design.
• Drive your own projects and contribute to collaborative efforts within the
  group.
• Mentor research assistants, master’s students, and potentially other
  trainees.
• Present findings at lab meetings, institutional seminars, and national
  conferences.
• Prepare manuscripts and contribute to grant applications.

Qualifications
Required:

• Recent PhD (or MD with significant research experience) in cell biology, molecular biology,
  genetics, physiology, or a related field
• Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques
  (e.g., western blotting, immunofluorescence, cloning, qPCR)
• Experience with mouse models of human disease
• Strong publication record and evidence of conference presentations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  Preferred:
• Experience with iPSC culture and differentiation, particularly toward renal or organoid systems
• Proficiency with CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing in cell lines or in vivo
• Background in kidney biology, podocyte biology, genomics, proteomics, or rare disease research

  Pay Transparency
  Exempt Role:
• $70,000/- to $75,382/-
  The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the
  time of posting.
  Pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-
  related factors.
