Job Description

Gujarat Biotechnology University (GBU) will invite applications from highly motivated and dynamic candidates for the position of Junior Research Fellow (JRF) in a cutting-edge research project focused on the Production of Health-Promoting Bioactive Carbohydrates Using Enzymes.

This project aims to develop novel bioactive carbohydrates using enzymatic strategies and evaluate their potential to promote health by supporting the growth and function of beneficial gut bacteria (probiotics). All carbohydrate products generated will undergo systematic testing for their prebiotic potential using probiotic bacterial strains, with the goal of developing sustainable and value-added health solutions.

Position: Junior Research Fellow (JRF) – 4 Positions

Fellowship: ₹37,000 per month + 27% HRA (as per applicable rules)

Essential Qualification:
CSIR-UGC NET, GATE, or equivalent qualification
M.Sc. in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or related disciplines

Desired Experience:
Hands-on experience in enzyme handling, enzyme-based bioprocess development, and optimization
Expertise in analytical techniques including HPLC, TLC, and Ion Exchange Chromatography for product characterization
Experience in bioinformatics tools for mining novel genes and enzyme engineering
Familiarity with in vitro probiotic assays to assess prebiotic potential of carbohydrate products
Strong interest in applied research for functional food ingredients and health-promoting biomolecules

Job Responsibilities:
Enzyme-based development and optimization of bioactive carbohydrate production
Analytical characterization of carbohydrate products using advanced chromatographic techniques
Bioinformatics-driven mining of novel genes and engineering of superior enzymes
Evaluation of prebiotic potential through in vitro probiotic growth and functionality assays
Contribute to research publications, patent applications, and collaborative projects
