Job Description
We invite applications for a postdoctoral position in the eBERlight group within the X-ray Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory. The selected candidate will lead the expansion of the protein expression platforms, currently utilizing E. coli and mammalian cell lines, to onboard other microbial systems (e.g., fungi), insect-cell (baculovirus) systems, plant-based expression (in planta), and cell free methods.

Key Responsibilities:
- Development and optimization of vector constructs and expression condition characterization of protein yields and quality, and large-scale protein production for structural biology and other applications (ligand binding, enzymatic activity etc.).
- Involvement in the research pertinent to specific protein targets will be expected as well, along with presentation of findings to the community through publications and presentations.
Position Requirements
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Plant Biology, Protein Engineering, Microbiology, or a related field completed in the past five years or soon-to-be completed.
- Demonstrated experience in at least two of the following:
- Fungal protein expression
- Insect-cell (baculovirus) expression platforms.
- Plant-based (in planta) expression systems.
- Membrane proteins production and purification
- Strong molecular biology skills (cloning, vector design, transformation), protein purification and analysis, and quantitative data analysis.
- Excellent communication and teamwork capabilities, with a track record (or potential) in writing publications and presenting scientific results.
- Interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills, and ability to interact with people at all levels both within and outside the laboratory.
- Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Prior experience with high-throughput or computational protein design/screening techniques.
