Job Overview

Job Description

Molecular Biology Lead Ferry Lifesciences is a startup backed by IIT Bombay, CCMB Hyderabad, and IISc, and funded by an Emergent Ventures grant, the Honeywell Foundation and multiple grants from India’s Institutes of National Importance. As Bio Lead at Ferry, you own the aptamers: selection from scratch, proof that they bind what they claim to bind, and the chemistry that keeps them working on an electrode or cartridge reacting with a point-of-care sample. It is a Full-time, on-site role in Bangalore. Must have: • A master’s or doctorate in molecular biology, biochemistry or biotechnology, with about three years at the bench • A SELEX campaign you have run end to end with enough nucleic-acid selection work to plan one and say where it usually fails, and avoid those pitfalls. • Core nucleic-acid craft: PCR and qPCR design, gel and HPLC purification, ssDNA generation, handling oligo pools at low copy number • The target side as well as the library: protein sourcing or expression, biotinylation, immobilisation on magnetic or sensor surfaces, and QC of the target before a round • Biophysical characterization including Tc with your own data fitting (SPR preferred, MST, BLI or ITC equally welcome) • Python or R for pool analysis; you cluster your own rounds rather than waiting on someone else • Records written for a patent attorney and an auditor, not only for yourself. • Experience supervising a junior scientist or student, because you will hire and run your own in year one. Good to have: • Capture-SELEX, or selection against a target with distinct conformational states such as apo and holo forms. • Aptamer modification chemistry and nuclease-resistance work. • Structure prediction and modelling for nucleic acids: NUPACK, mfold, docking or molecular dynamics. • Aptamer-based sensors of any kind: Ideally electrochemical or fluorescent. Colorimetric nanoparticle work and lateral flow work also good to have. • Work inside a quality system, or data you have contributed to an IVD filing. • Understanding of human physiology, and clinical research experience. Working arrangement and Compensation: Full-time and on-site in Bangalore, at CCAMP, with collaboration at CCMB (Hyderabad). You report to the founders and work day to day with the microfluidics lead (Senior post-doc level researcher). This is a lead role, and beyond a solo bench seat or fellowship: you hire a junior scientist and intern in your first 3-6 months and run that bench end to end. Compensation is between Academic Level 11 to 13A as per 7th Pay Commission, depending on experience and qualifications. ESOPs to be initiated after your first review (3-6 months). To apply, send a CV and a short note on the selection you would run against ferritin, and what you would do when round six comes back flat. And how you would integrate an aptamer you have confirmed to have relevant Kd values, on a point-of-care electrochemical assay. Contact Details anirudh@fe-rry.com, surya@fe-rry.com 77024 23300
