Job Description

PhD Opportunity at the University of Bristol Applications are now open for a Funded PhD position at the University of Bristol: ‘How do free fatty acids regulate beta-coronavirus infection?’, co-supervised by Christiane Berger-Schaffitzel, Andrew Davidson, Harriet Mears, and Paul Verkade. This highly interdisciplinary and collaborative project will investigate how free fatty acids influence coronavirus infection, replication and evolution, building on our discovery of a conserved fatty acid-binding pocket in the coronavirus spike protein. As part of this project, you will combine structural biology, electron cryo-microscopy, cryo-tomography, molecular virology, advanced microscopy, biophysics and protein engineering to address fundamental questions in virus biology and explore new avenues for antiviral intervention. You will join a vibrant and supportive research team and benefit from access to world-class facilities, including Bristol’s advanced imaging, cryo-EM and virology infrastructure.
